Sculptors Anne and James Davidson created a completely original range of small figure sculptures. Each piece is thoroughly researched and made of solid bronze resin – with a minimum of 80% bronze by weight – using a technique called cold-casting. They also produced large scale works, some of which can be seen in Larger Work and Commissions.
Anne studied sculpture at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, graduating in 1959. Following this she worked as a school art teacher until 1968. Anne was an elected member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors and was also a member of the International Society of Christian Artists (SIAC). Her speciality was figurative work. She lectured at schools and colleges and, with James, led a popular sculpture workshop for blind adults from 1985 to 1998.
James also studied at Gray’s School of Art before moving to Glasgow to study Stage Design. He was a skilled calligrapher who undertook many writing commissions.
They started their business in 1982 using the name “Collector’s Pieces” but this had change to “Anne and James Davidson Sculptors” by the 1990s. Examples of their work can be seen in public buildings, schools, churches and private collections.
Both Anne and James continued working up until their deaths – Anne in December 2008, and James in July 2023.
The business is continued by their son Toby, who has worked as an artist since 1998.
