Our Lady of Good Success

This is a copy of a medieval statue. The original stood in a chapel beside the River Dee where travellers to Aberdeen could give thanks for a safe journey. At the time of the Reformation the statue was taken to the Netherlands. It arrived there as a battle raged and the subsequent victory was attributed to her presence. As a result, the statue was installed with great ceremony in the Church of “Notre Dame de Bon Succés” in Brussels. So she was given her first title – “Our Lady of Aberdeen” came later. By order of Napoleon the statue was removed to the Church of our Lady of Finistére, where it remains today.
