Saint Bede

Saint Bede was a monk from the north of England who became known as the “Father of English History”.

Born in 673, Bede was seven years old when he entered the monastery of Monkwearmouth as an oblate. Later he was sent to the abbey at Jarrow. He wrote more than sixty books on history, theology and chronology. His most well known work is the “Ecclesiastical History of the English People” (Historia Ecclesiastica Gentis Anglorum), which he completed in 731.
