Saint Patrick’s birthplace and date are not known, but he is thought to have lived in Roman Britain during the 5th Century. There are also claims that his birthplace was in Scotland or Wales.

At the age of 16 he was captured by pirates and sold into slavery in Ireland, where he remained for six years. After his escape Patrick devoted his life to missionary work, at first in France then returning to Ireland. He spent the rest of his life in the service of the Irish people.
